If youโre a Panic! At The Disco fan, then youโve never been more grateful for a record label, because frontman Brendon Urie wasnโt necessarily ready to release a full-length album until Fueled By Ramen basically made him. That is, according to Brendon himself.
The frontman revealed during Panic! At The Discoโs epic Pray For The Wicked iHeartRadio Album Release Party on Thursday, June 21, that he didnโt anticipate releasing what is now their sixth 11-track studio album.
โThis album, it surprised me,โ Brendon shared during the Q+A portion of the live 1-hour radio and YouTube livestream. โI didnโt think I was going to have an album right now and my mistake was showing it to the label,โ he added. โI was just trying to do some Soundcloud.โ
During an exclusive interview with iHeartRadio prior to the performance, Brendon previously explained that the album is โtotally differentโ than anything theyโve done before.
โFor me, sonically, it's completely different,โ he shared. โThere are songs that I've never thought that I would ever write."
So far, fans have heard Pray For the Wickedโs lead single "Say Amen (Saturday Night)," "High Hopes," and โ(F--k A) Silver Lining,โ all three of which Brendon performed during the intimate, yet super-charged, glass-shattering, mega iHeartRadio Album Release Party.
The frontman, who added that part of his musical growth is thanks to spending the summer performing Kinky Boots on Broadway, kicked off the show with 2016โs Death of a Bachelorโs โDonโt Threaten Me With a Good Time.โ He then declared โNew song! New song!โ before performing โHigh Hopes,โ the second single off Pray for the Wicked.
Next up was โThis Is Gospelโ off 2013โs Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! and โDeath Of a Bachelorโ off Panicโs 2016 album by the same title, which he joked he โwrote for Sinatra" but never heard back.
โThis is what I call my bedroom voice,โ he then teased before breaking out new lead single โSay Amen (Saturday Night).โ โThis is as quiet as I go and itโs pretty raspy because Iโve been smoking weed all day.โ
Brendon and the gang closed the radio portion of the album release with 2005 โoldie but goodieโ hit jam โI Write Sins Not Tragediesโ to a bevy of elated fans before also offering a rendition of 2016โs โHallelujahโ and 2013โs โMiss Jackson.โ
โMy body is like โWhat are you doing?โโ Brendon joked, taking a quick break. โโItโs not tour yet.โโ
The self-proclaimed dad-joking frontman wrapped up the show by performing new track โ(F--k A) Silver Liningโ and crowd favorites โGirls/Girls/Boys,โ โVictorious,โ and Queen cover โBohemian Rhapsodyโ.
