Mick Jagger Makes First Public Appearance Since Heart Surgery

Mick Jagger took another step forward in his recovery Thursday when he made his first public appearance since undergoing heart surgery earlier this month.

The Rolling Stones front man had a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), which was described by his New York doctors as minimally invasive. Within a week, he was back on his feet, enjoying the spring weather.

Thursday night he was on hand at the Youth America Grand Prix's 20th-anniversary gala at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center to see his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick debut a ballet that's set to the music of the Stones.

Page Six reports Jagger entered via a side door so as not to draw attention to himself. He reportedly told organizers, "When I go to a fundraiser, it's like Santa Claus at Macy's: Everyone wants to sit on my lap and have a photo taken."

He congratulated the performers right after the show, and he added that he's doing well since his hospitalization.

The Rolling Stones announced in late-March that the band had to postpone the U.S. leg of its 'No Filter' tour when doctors informed Jagger he needed to have TAVR before going back on the road.

The band has yet to announce a new start date for the trek.
