Myles Garrett Suspended Indefinitely For Hitting Steelers QB With Helmet

Pittsburgh Steelers v Cleveland Browns

The NFL announced that Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has been suspended indefinitely following an ugly incident at the tail end of the Browns 21-7 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday (November 14) night. The Browns were just eight seconds away from their fourth win of the season when the game spiraled out of control. The Steelers were running what they thought would be one final play when Garrett took down Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph after he dumped the football off to running back Trey Edmunds. The two players tussled on the ground, and Garrett ripped Rudolph's helmet off his head.

As the two players stood up, they started to argue and push each other. Steelers offensive linemen Matt Feiler and David DeCastro tried to break it up, but Garrett clocked Rudolph on the head with his own helmet. As the two players fought, both teams rushed to the end zone, sparking a melee between the players. After the players were separated and officials regained control of the game, Garrett, Brown's defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, and Steelers' center Maurkice Pouncey were ejected for their roles in the fight.

After the game, Garrett apologized for losing his cool and admitted that his actions would hurt the team in the long term.

“I lost my cool, and I regret it,” Garrett said. “It’s going to come back to hurt our team. The guys who jumped into the scrum, I appreciate my team having my back, but it never should have gotten to that point.”

The NFL issued a statement saying the Garrett will have to meet with the Commissioner's Office before he is reinstated.

"Garrett has been suspended without pay indefinitely -- at a minimum for the remainder of the regular season and postseason -- and must meet with the Commissioner's Office prior to a decision on his reinstatement. He was also fined an additional amount," the NFL said.

Pouncey received a three game suspension and was fined for fighting, while Ogunjobi was was suspended for one game. The NFL said that they are continuing to investigate the incident and that other players who joined the scuffle could be disciplined.

The players have three business days to appeal their punishments.
