One Lucky North Carolina Winner Scores $2 Million In Mega Millions Prize

One lucky North Carolina resident hit it big during Friday's (January 22) Mega Millions lottery drawing, scoring a $2 million prize. The winner, whose name has not been revealed, purchased the ticket from the Minuteman Food Mart in Leland.

The lucky winner matched all five numbers on the $3 Megaplier ticket, beating the 1 in 12.6 million odds to win the $1 million prize. The total doubled after the 2X Megaplier was drawn.

The numbers needed to win the prize were: 4-26-42-50-60.

According to WRAL, six other tickets in North Carolina also won big. One ticket sold in Smithville scored a $20,000 prize, and five tickets won $10,000 each in Elizabeth City, Greenville, Hickory, Hildebran, and Kernersville. All winners with the lucky tickets have 180 days from the drawing to collect their winnings.

The North Carolina winner follows in the footsteps of a woman in Michigan who on Friday (January 22) won the Mega Millions jackpot, scoring the $1 billion prize. This was the second-largest jackpot in the game's history, after a record run of 37 draws led to the inflated prize. The largest-ever earning came in 2018 when a South Carolina man won a $1.537 billion jackpot.
